Manganese testing at our Perkins Row source indicates the water produced by this station now exceeds MassDEP's limit of 300 parts per billion.  A Manganese Drinkng Water Advisory was implemented in December 2013 due to high manganese levels that had occurred in years past.

Perkins Row produces about 20% of the Town's water and the North Street source is well below the state manganese limit.  However we can't both sources pump into the system and it is not possible to predict manganese concentrations at each home due varying hydraulic conditions.  Therefore, use bottled water to make baby formula and for young children.  We plan to use Perkins Row as little as possible to until manganese levels fall comfortably below the state limit but we also need to balance withdrawals between our two sources due to the drought.

Results from another round of tests taken last week are expected shortly.

Manganese Advisory

The Water Department issued a manganese advisory on November 1, 2013.  Monthly test results are available our water quality site.

The Perkins Row well exceeded MassDEP's limit of 0.3 milligrams per Liter during the summer of 2016.  Both water sources are now below State manganese limit.  The advisory will remain in place until the treatment plant is built and in operation.

Water Treatment Plant Information

A Special Town Meeting held on June 20, 2017 approved $10.4 million for the construction of a water treatment facility.  Construction is underway and we expect the plant to open in early 2019.  Click here for more information.
