Water Conservation

Reduce irrigation usage:

A new generation of irrigation controllers are available that will help reduce unnecessary watering. Most irrigation systems are run by a time clock and do not take any weather conditions into account. AquaSave now has a controller that uses a rain gauge and solar radiation data from a weather station to determine if it needs to run. The advantages are that the lawn is watered only when it needs to be and receives the proper amount every time.

An Excellent Site:

H2Ouse.org - This site is operated by the California Urban Water Conservation Council and is an excellent source of conservation tips and water savings estimates.

Dual Flush Toilets:

These toilets use less water then toilets that meet current plumbing standards and can significantly reduce the amount of domestic water use. Please check the following websites for more information:

Rain Barrels:

The Water Department is working with the New England Rain Barrel Company to make rain barrels available to Topsfield residents. Please call us at (978) 887-1517 or check the company's website for more information.
