Stormwater Management and Erosion Control

The Town's stormwater regulations are split into two parts. The Stormwater Management & Erosion Control Bylaw gives the Town the legal authority to regulate stormwater and erosion. Certain boards already have this authority but have limited jurisdiction, an example being the Conservation Commission. The bylaw allows for the regulation of stormwater and erosion control for projects that disturb more than 7,500 square feet on slopes less than 15 percent or 4,000 square feet on slopes of greater than 15 percent.. The Regulations are more detailed oriented than the bylaw and will determine the specifics of how the bylaw is implemented.

Stormwater Management & Erosion Control Bylaw:

The Stormwater Management Committee, with the help of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, developed a Storm Water Management and Erosion Control Bylaw for consideration at the Annual Town Meeting on May 3, 2005. The bylaw was approved and will aid the Town in complying with Federal Phase II Stormwater Requirements and is a major component of the Town's Stormwater Management Plan. Members of the committee include representatives from the Conservation Commission, Planning Board, Highway Department and Water Department. Copies of the Storm Water Management and Erosion Control Bylaw are available online for informational purposes only. Please obtain an official copy from the Town Clerk's Office if you are planning to file for a Stormwater Management Permit.

Regulations:

The Stormwater Management Committee, with the help of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council are now working on developing the regulations needed to implement the new bylaw.
